Fixing Audio Desync in Your Browser (YouTube/Netflix)
Are lips moving before the sound plays? Here is how to fix frustrating audio/video desync issues in Chrome, Edge, and Firefox.
The Lip-Sync Nightmare
There is nothing more immersion-breaking than audio that plays half a second after the actor's mouth moves.
# The Culprit: Hardware Acceleration
In 90% of cases, audio desync in web browsers is caused by poorly optimized Hardware Acceleration. Browsers try to offload video decoding to your GPU, but conflicts with driver versions can cause timing mismatches.
How to Disable (Chrome/Edge): 1. Click the three dots top right -> Settings. 2. Go to the System tab. 3. Toggle off Use hardware acceleration when available. 4. Click Relaunch.
Watch this quick YouTube tutorial if you can't find the setting deep in the Chromium menus.
# Sample Rate Mismatch
If disabling acceleration didn't work, ensure your Windows audio sample rate matches what the browser expects. Go to Sound control panel > Properties of your output device > Advanced tab. Try switching the default format to 24 bit, 48000 Hz (Studio Quality).
